Der Verteidigungsring um Zadar. Hier gibt es noch jede Menge weitere Bunker, allerdings hatte ich nicht allzu viel Zeit.

Zur Geschichte:

Die Situation zum Ende und kurz nach dem 1. Weltkrieg war dort unten gelinde gesagt unübersichtlich. Während Zadar bis zum Vertrag von Rapallo 1920 österreichisch war und erst danach an Italien fiel, war Sibenik italienisch besetzt und fiel 1920 an das Königreich der Serben, Kroaten und Slovenen. Die Städte waren jeweils im Zentrum befestigt sowie durch einen Verteidigungsring geschützt. Der Ring um Sibenik blieb allerdings unvollendet, nur der westliche Teil wurde fertiggestellt (also wahrscheinlich vor 1920). Der Ring um Zadar wurde nach 1920 voll ausgebaut.

"Little is officially published about italian fortifications around Zadar. There were allegedly three lines on five sectors, A-E, and the fortifications were manned by army troops, that were only pro-forma part of the "Border Guards" (Guardia alla Frontiera). The bunker types were specific for this area, and were generally not armoured with steel "scharten". However, there was a number of almost "proper" Vallo Alpino (Alpenwall) type forts, with steel cloches/turrets of "Mod. 3" type, and elaborate subterranean parts, some of them even built in caverns (not by surface excavation).
The heaviest bunker types were for some reason to the NW and W, and were armed with two HMGs, but also had side embrasures for flanking fire and caponiers for entrance defence. They also had one subterranean level. Google Earth is the perfect way to "visit" fortifications there.
Now, Markus, all bunkers on your Sibenik photos are Italian. Peculiarity is that some of them were used even in 1991, during the war for Croatian independence."
