Mit Wittmans Buch meine ich "Exploring the Dress Daggers Of the German Army". Leider sind die Bilder hier nicht so dolle.
Rare Eickhorn Army with stamped 1935-41 Logo
This dagger was purchased by me from Paul Hogle (Lakeside Trader) back in November 2004.
The description was posted with the piece on Lakeside Trader’s website and these are Lakeside’s words:
“Blade is beautiful having 100% graining and perfect edges right down to the perfect tip! It is bright, shiny with normal runner marks and some minor graying that appear as smudges. The blade grades Exc++! Now for the best part, the reverse ricasso is stamped with the SCARCE small Eickhorn “1935-41 Squirrel” logo. A thick brown leather washer is present. This piece is in untouched condition having a nice patina over the silver plated finish. I’ve seen these cleaned up and they are beauties! The pommel is the 12-leaf type that shows only the slightest carrying signs on the top and the edge. The orange grip show a couple small, very small, scrapes to the reverse. When I say small I mean the size of the crossguard eagle’s eye! I’m being fussy here. The first pattern cross guard shows crisp edges and smooth surfaces with virtually no wear. For you guys who are checking against Wittmann’s book, see pg 24. Again the patina really sets this off, Very nice! The scabbard is the second style being straight throughout with the patina matching that of the hilt. The thick scabbard throat is retained by a unturned flathead screw. As is the case with many Eickhorn army Daggers, the scabbard weight is loose, this DOES NOT take away from the desirability of the piece. A very collectible example with a SCARCE maker mark! Exc++/NM.”
I did not do anything to the dagger, except polishing the blade with Simichrome afew months ago. The graying of the blade is noticeable, but not detracting, the overall patina is still there, I did not polish the dagger.
