P-47 Surfaces
On the afternoon of 13 June 2005, a veteran of some 90 missions was successfully raised from the bottom of Traunsee, Upper Austria. Bearing the legend and well preserved nose art 'Dottie Mae' the P-47 will be restored back to wartime condition in the U.S. The loss of the aircraft and what is known of its wartime history is described in detail. Recovery photos along with a period photo compliment what will be a fascinating ongoing story.
