Hallo Leute,

sich verjüngende Gewehrhülsen findet man ja andauernd, aber diese beiden verjüngen sich gar nicht bzw. gleich doppelt. Kann jemand etwas dazu sagen? Kaliber ist 9 bzw. 4 mm.

Sorry but my German writing isn't very good but I can read. The blank shell on the right is a blank cartridge that has not bullet. It is probably an M-1 Garand ahell. The one on the left is used as a "sabot" to shot down the barrel of a tank weapon to practic shooting. Good luck Lee

sorry, but my knowledge of US weaponry is limited. Please allow me to ask some questions to make sure I fully understand your answer.

Do 'shell' and 'cartridge' mean the same thing?

Concerning the right cartridge: What is a 'M-1 Garand'? An assault rifle? A machine gun?
What makes me curious about this ammunition is that it has obviously a very small caliber and a very big charge (in comparison to the caliber). What is this purpose of this kind of ammunition? Maximum penetration ability in combination with a very hard projectile?

Concerning the left cartridge:

Do I understand correctly that 'tank weapon' related to a machine gun mounted on the tank? So the shell belongs to some sort of practice ammunition with some sort of projectile not as dangerous as the real one? Maybe out of plastic?

Das M-1 Garand ist ein Selbstladegewehr im Kaliber
.30-06 (7,62 x 63). Die doppelverjüngte Patrone ist
wahrscheinlich eine Platzpatrone.

Bei dem Bodenstempel RWS (Rheinisch Westfälische Sprengstoff AG )handelt es sich um eine ziviele Jagtpatrone. Unsere Jäger sind leider auch nicht alle sehr umweltbewusst.

Die linke Hülse ist eine 9,3x72R, die sogenannte "Försterpatrone" von 1880. Also ein schon altes Kaliber, für eine Kipplaufbüchse, die klassische Berufjäger, daher Försterpatrone. Entwickelt aus der 9,3x57R (.360 lang) die als 9,3x85R entstanden ist.

Die Platzpatrone ist eine .308 Nato, und zwar das US-amerikanische Muster.

Das im Garand Halbautomat verwendete Kaliber war zwar auch ein .30iger, aber .30-06 Springfield. Diese Waffe war eine der beiden Standardhalbautomaten der US-Streitkräfte im 2. Weltkrieg. Die Munition wird in einem Klipp mit acht Patronen zugeführt, nach dem letzten Schuß wird der leere Klipp hörbar ausgeworfen.
