    Anlagen in Oberursel

    Hallo Kollegen !

        viele gruesse

The post was originally called Camp Sibert. General Edwin Sibert was the Senior Intelligence Officer for the US zone (Gajdosch). Department of Defense Records indicate that several Mobile Field Interrogation Units moved into the post to serve at the Army and group levels. On September 19, 1946, (General order 264) officially named the Intelligence Center located in Oberursel as "Camp King." The post was named after Colonel Charles B. King, Infantry. Colonel King was an intelligence officer who died in Normandy. On June 22, 1944, Colonel King was accompanying a patrol bringing back prisoners when he was killed.

Camp King mainly consisted of two major groups - The Gehlen Organization and the U.S. intelligence center. The post was split between the ECIC and the Gehlen organization from 1946 until 1952.

The "Gehlen Organization" which was a top level German Intelligence Service had its start on the post. During the war General Reinhard Gehlen was the head of the German intelligence section of the Fremde Heere Ost , (Abwehr) which translated means Foreign Armies East, the general staff on the eastern front. General Gehlen had planned for his organizations surrender by concealing intelligence information. This information was traded to the United States in return for their still being allowed to operate despite denatizification. His organization became a valuable asset in the Soviet Union for the CIA. The organization was based on Camp King until 1952.

The American Center, also referred to as the European Command Intelligence Center, interrogated many famous German officials during this period. The book "The History of Camp King" list the following people: Brandt, Karl, Hitler's personal surgeon and in charge of sanitation; Doenitz, Karl, Grand Admiral; Frank, Hans, Reich Minister, Governor of Poland; Goering, Herman, Marshal of the Reich, Chief of the German Air Force; Jodl, Alfred, Chief of the German Armed Forces; Keitel, Wilhelm; Filed Marshal and chief of the Oberkommando Der Wehrmacht; Kesselring, Albert, Field Marshall and Supreme Commander West.

During World War II a unit known as the 6824 DICMIS (Detailed Interrogation Center-Military Intelligence Service) was activated. The unit began its history as a British unit in 1942. As the war ended the unit was assigned to Camp King along with several MFIU's (Mobile Filed Interrogation Unit). The MFIU's combined with the 6824 DICMIS to form the USFETMISC (United States Forces European Theater Military Intelligence Service Center also known as the European Command Intelligence Center- ECIC). Its mission was to exploit high level sources of interest to the United States. It appears that the center was used to interrogate and assess displaced persons.

The first tenant unit was the 7077th USAEUR Intelligence Center. The mission included training and operations. According to John Finnegan, HQ INSCOM, in 1953 the 513 Military Intelligence Service Group activated at the post to perform interrogation, translation, and report preparation functions. In 1959, the group assumed counterintelligence functions for northern Germany. In July 1961 the group was redesignated the 513th Intelligence Corps Group. (In 1961, the Counter Intelligence Corps was combined with other intelligence units to form Military Intelligence Corps) It was again redesignated the 513 Military Intelligence Group in October of 1966 due to the intelligence Corps being discontinued as a separate Army Organization. The Military Intelligence connection with Camp King ceased, on October 22, 1968, as the 513th Military Intelligence Group relocated to Munich.

The Cryptlogic Link: With the unconditional surrender in May 1945, every cryptologic service in Germany came to an end. Allied Intelligence services and their field teams collected whatever German cryptographic and cryptanalytic items they could get their hands on. This included the extraction of information by interrogations of former members of the German cryptologic community during their detention.

The first new German cryptologic service after WW II was established at Camp King, Oberursel, in the early stages of the Gehlen Organization. An interview by Lt. Col. ret. Alexis Dettmann in 1994 revealed that it was Dr. Erich Hüttenhain who in 1947 laid the foundation of the cryptologic service within the Organisation Gehlen, the so-called "Studiengesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Arbeiten" (Study Group for Scientific Inverstigation) at a time when Alexis Dettmann was an employee of the European Command Intelligence Center at Oberursel. The study group emerged in 1956 as the German Cipher Board when the Organisation Gehlen became finally the Federal Intelligence Service.

As you know the CIA was also at Camp King. It has many dealings with the Gehlen Organiaztion. It is said that they conducted LSD and psycho drug tests in safehouses near Camp King later. The CIA had its main offices in the I.G. Farben building in the 50's and 60's. The main incineration and destruction facility for classified material was behind the building. It was a choice detail to be on the "Farben Run" from Camp King, Oberursel which used the incinerator at the I.G. Farben to destroy their classified material.

              Oberursel

              Hallo...

              Gru? PEDRO
